It’s Not Donuts That Kill Us
Share

When I hit the grocery store in Los Angeles, I see endless shelves packed with everything you can imagine. It looks so bright and inviting, almost promising health and pleasure at the lowest price.
Organic plantain chips fried in the cheapest industrial oils.
Vegan burgers made possible with a dozen of hard to pronounce ingredients.
Veggies that never seem to die in the fridge.
Organic veggies that live same long.
Do they both get sprayed with the same stuff? Probably. And that thang is probably not toxic enough to be mentioned on the package.
Maybe that’s why they don’t tell us how to wash those veggies properly — because they didn’t cover them with ‘eternity spray’?
Ask people outside the US about dementia or Alzheimer’s. I bet they either won’t know or they’ll say it’s a disease popular in the US.
Why is obesity such a big deal here?
Because we love sweet stuff. We crave it. We’re addicted to it.
These things are interconnected.
I talked to a lovely lady about health and food. She told me she’s had type 2 diabetes for years. I asked if she knew it could be reversed with a plant-based diet. She said she did and started telling me about her husband, a wonderful chef. She enjoys his delicious food and later uses medication to kill her appetite and lower her blood glucose level.
I didn’t show it, but her story was a real eye-opener for me. It’s a perfect example of that psychological insight I once read about: we fear the uncertainty of change so much that we keep doing things that harm us, even when we know better.
Some might say I’m being judgmental. I’m not just talking about that lady. We only see in others what we have inside ourselves. Being honest with yourself has many levels. None of us comes here perfect, and none of us leaves perfect.
But we’re here to survive and evolve. And the best place to start your personal evolution is by asking yourself:
“Where am I lying to myself about my… health/relationship/job, etc.?”
Grab a pen and paper and promise yourself to be honest for the next 10 minutes.
You’ll be amazed at what you discover.
It’s not donuts that kill us, is it?
